Fancy Flag Maneuvers - Flag Management Part III

This month we've looked at ways to do "spring cleaning" on your donor flags. Now that summer has started, it's time to learn some fancy footwork with flags!

Last Year But Unfortunately Not This Year - Using Flags for LYBUNT Reports V-Manager includes a one-click report on donors who gave last year but not this year (LYBUNT, in the jargon of fundraisers). But sometimes you want to limit this report by the source of contributions, by the geographic area of donors, or by one of your donor flags. Let's say you want a report of donors from 2000 who have not given in 2001 and who live within a five-zip code area:

• Select Tools | Edit System Files | Donor | Flag Names. Name an unused flag "Donors 2000." This flag will be marked "Yes" for anyone who gave money during 2000.
• ¨ Select Transactions | Update Flags. Reset this flag (select Donors 2000) to be (select Yes) for (select the first option "Change the flag for anyone who hasgiven at least") | enter the amount of $1.00 | select "Only count contributions between the dates of" and enter 01/01/2000 and 12/31/2000. Click on OK, review the list, and click on OK to reset the flag.
• Select Reports | Name Reports | Select Criteria. The following criteria will be selected:
• Select "yes" by the Donors 2000 flag ¨ Limit to zip code (select the zip codes desired)
• Specify Contribution Info - Select "Do not meet the criteria below" and fill in the dates with 01/01/2001 and 12/31/2001.

  Voila! You have now created a LYBUNT report that limits by zip code. These steps can also be used to limit by a particular source or by any other additional criteria.
