Waving Too Many Flags?
Get Them Under Control with Update Flags
If you're like many
V-Manager users, your flags screen have become a bit untidy over the
years. You may have flags that are no longer necessary or even flags
with enigmatic names or initials - and you have no idea what the flag
represents! Well, it's time for Spring Cleaning! This is the first in
a series of tips on using the Update Flags feature effectively.
Let's start by
erasing those old flags that are no longer used. We advise printing
a report of donors marked with this flag. Review this report with your
staff to make sure that, indeed, this flag is no longer needed. Be sure
no other users are logged into V-Manager while you update flags.
- Click on
Transactions | Update Flags
- The screen
will prompt you, "Reset this flag," where you choose the flag to be
erased, "to be a," and select "N" for "no."
- Now click
the last radio button, selecting "Change the flag for anybody who has
a flag setting of"
- Select the
name of the unwanted flag again, and select "Y" for "yes"
You may
print the resulting report to the screen, and click on OK to reset
the flags. The final step is to return to Tools | Edit System Files
| Donors | Flag Names to actually delete the old flag's name.
